654 Hectares of Mangroves Restored Along the Puntland Coast

Horn Nature Conservation has reached a significant milestone in its Coastal Mangrove Restoration Initiative, successfully rehabilitating 654 hectares of mangrove forest along the Puntland coastline. This achievement represents years of dedicated work by coastal communities, HNC field teams, and international partners.

Mangroves play a vital role in protecting shorelines, supporting marine biodiversity, and sequestering carbon. The restored areas now serve as nurseries for fish and crustaceans, supporting the livelihoods of local fishing communities.

"Our elders taught us that the mangroves are the lungs of the coast," said a community steward from Bander Bayla. "Now our children will inherit a healthier coastline because of this work."

HNC continues to monitor the restored areas and train new generations of mangrove caretakers to ensure the long-term survival of these critical ecosystems.
