Community Reforestation and Green Belt Project

Total Money Required: USD 38,000

Planting native trees and establishing green belts around Galkacyo to combat desertification and improve urban air quality.

Rapid urbanization and deforestation have left Galkacyo vulnerable to dust storms and heat island effects. The Community Reforestation and Green Belt Project mobilizes residents to plant and care for native tree species around the city's perimeter.

Community nurseries produce drought-resistant seedlings including acacia and neem, which are planted along roadsides, school grounds, and public spaces. Tree-planting events engage schools, mosques, and neighbourhood associations, fostering a culture of environmental care.

Over 120,000 trees and seedlings have been planted during the project's active phase, with community caretaker groups ensuring survival rates above 70%.
