Youth Green Leaders Launch Community Waste Management Project

A team of young environmental leaders trained through HNC's Youth Green Leaders Programme has launched an ambitious community waste management project in Galkacyo. The initiative addresses growing waste challenges in the city's rapidly expanding neighbourhoods.

The youth team designed a neighbourhood collection system, established a recycling sorting point, and conducted awareness sessions in schools and marketplaces. They also partnered with Galkacyo Local Government to advocate for designated waste collection points.

"We learned in the Green Leaders Programme that young people have the energy and creativity to solve local problems," said team leader Mohamed Hassan. "This project is our way of giving back to our community."

HNC provided seed funding and mentorship for the project, which has already collected and sorted over two tonnes of recyclable material in its first month of operation.
