436 Farmers Embrace Climate-Smart Agriculture in Mudug Region

As droughts become more frequent and unpredictable in Puntland, smallholder farmers face mounting challenges to food security. Horn Nature Conservation's climate-smart agriculture programme has responded by supporting 436 farmers with practical tools and knowledge to adapt.

Through farmer field schools in Galkacyo, Jariban, and Harfo, participants learned to use drought-tolerant seed varieties, implement drip irrigation, and practice soil conservation techniques. Many farmers reported yield increases of 30–50% compared to previous seasons.

Fadumo Abdi, a participant from a women's agricultural cooperative, shared: "Before this training, we lost crops every time the rains failed. Now we know how to prepare the soil and choose seeds that survive dry periods."

The programme continues into 2026 with expanded support for women farmers and new demonstration plots in additional districts.
